St. Mary’s parish has a year-round program to help people learn about the Catholic Faith and prepare to become Catholic. We would be grateful for your help! Some of the roles that are often available are listed below. To learn more, or to sign-up to volunteer, call the rectory. Thank you!

Roles for Volunteers

Mass Mentor–Invite inquirers to Mass with you or your family. You might also invite them to parish events. This could happen once or more often.

Sponsor–Assist one person who is preparing to receive Catholic sacraments. Sponsors pray for the person they are sponsoring, invite him or her to parish events, and might provide other kinds of mentorship. Sponsors also stand in support of the person they are sponsoring during preparatory rites during a few Sunday Masses and when the person receives sacraments. After the person receives sacraments, sponsors check in with him or her, at least occasionally, the following year.

Dismissal Leader–Lead a 20-minute Bible study of the Sunday readings with candidates after they are dismissed from the Mass. This would be occasional. The goal is to help the candidates reflect on the readings, rather than provide formal teaching.

Hospitality Leader–Help to plan and run a celebration after the Easter Vigil and at Pentecost. You might also help plan visits for inquirers and new Catholics to Catholic sites in the area. We might also need hospitality during some meetings. This could be done once or more often.

Prayer Commitment–-Make a commitment to pray for inquirers. This is similar to Seminarian card program that ensures seminarians of prayer during Lent.

Teaching---If you have experience teaching adults who are learning about the Faith, you might be able to be a guest speaker covering a particular topic or topics.
