The Health Ministry of St. Mary’s Parish is dedicated to embracing the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — in relationship to God, Mary, our Patroness, and our Parish family.

The Gospels of the New Testament are filled with stories of Jesus’ healing, not only healing physical ailments, but also relieving spiritual distress. Jesus dealt with the relationships within the person---body, mind, and spirit—allowing healing to be approached in a holistic manner. Health Ministry is grounded in the tradition of the Church to preach the kingdom of God and to heal, respecting that interdependency of body, mind, and spirit, focusing on the "whole person" approach to health care.

We must remember how our belief in God affects us in times of health and illness. Studies have found that people with strong faith, and attachment to a faith-based community, can enhance their ability to fight disease and stay healthy. Health Ministry stresses that health is not just an absence of disease but also about all our life: relationships, values, and lifestyles. We can do nothing but benefit and become more enlivened as we begin to see the relationship between our faith and our health.

Our Parish Health Ministry:

•Consults with parishioners with health concerns.
•Serves as a resource to health services and agencies.
•Provides health education for the parish.
•Collaborates with existing service programs such as Social Concerns
•Does blood pressure screenings.
•Maintains spirituality as part of our Health Ministry team.
•Develops relationships through "careful" listening and personal contact.
•Partners with community agencies to provide health screenings for the parish.

We also feel that it is important to identify and clarify the types of services and activities that will not be included.

Our Health Ministry team does not:

•Interfere with Professional Agencies Responsibilities, such as visiting nurses.
•Do anything invasive.
•Do housekeeping, transportation, babysitting.
•Administer medications.
•Do dressing changes.
•Perform nursing procedures.
•Make diagnoses.

If you are in a related field of health, law, counseling, education, etc., or have a special life experience and would like to help by offering your advice or by presenting or being part of a program, please feel free to contact us.

We ask that all parishioners keep us in your prayers, asking the Lord, and His Blessed Mother, to guide us in our ministry.
